In this study, we aimed to review data of these 30 cases to understand and evaluate the coagulopathy, transfusion requirements and outcomes of these patients.
Study
Design/Methods:
After approval, a retrospective cohort study was conducted in which all patients who underwent liver transplant surgeries at the Royal Hospital were included. Data was analysed descriptively. This study is planned to continue prospectively, after which more sophisticated outcome analysis will be attempted once the sample size becomes larger.
Results/Findings:
30 patients were included, of which 17 were females. Median age was 50 (IQR: 31.5 – 58.5). Table 1 shows the coagulation parameters intra-operatively and 24 hours post-operatively, as well as the intra-operative and 24 post-operative transfusion requirements. The median number of days in the ICU was 4.5 days (range: 3 – 15) and the median number of days to discharge was 16 days (range: 7 – 80). No mortality and no thrombotic events were observed. Bleeding occurred in two of the patients.
Conclusions:
In our cohort, we observed modest requirement of blood products intra-operatively and 24 hours post-operatively with favourable outcomes. This is perhaps because most of the cases are of low risk profile. The prospective part of this analysis will be of great value.
