Session Desription: The Blood Bank Guy Essentials Podcast is designed to focus on teaching the essentials of Transfusion Medicine. This educational session will be done in "live interview-style" with audience participation, similar to a live podcast recording experience. The interviews, with previous podcast guests Sue Johnson and Dr. Meghan Delaney, will cover foundational topics in immunohematology and blood transfusion practice. Attendees will learn essential details about results and testing procedures for patients with autoantibodies, and hear details on red blood cell product selection in a variety of clinical situations. Clinical settings to be discussed include patients with the weak D phenotype and sickle cell disease, as well as those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, intrauterine transfusion, and exchange transfusion in settings of hemolytic disease of the newborn. The focus is on learning, in a relaxed, fun setting, with opportunities for the audience to share their thoughts and experiences to the panel.
