Susan began her career in blood banking with Vitalant 28 years ago, first working in the laboratory, then spending several years in the quality department before moving into administration. Today, she is Regional Director for Vitalant’s Central Coast Region. Susan has been active in California state level professional organizations for several years and has served on the boards and as President of two California-based professional organizations, Blood Centers of California (BCC)and California Blood Bank Society (CBBS). On a national level, she serves in several capacities for the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB), currently as a member of AABB’s Transfusion Medicine Subsection Coordinating Committee and the Blood Bank and Transfusion Services Standards Committee. She is an AABB Assessor, has served as a mentor for AABB’s Mentorship Program and is an active participant in AABB’s Leadership & Administrative and Quality Subsections. She has previously chaired AABB’s Membership Committee. Susan is also member of America’s Blood Centers (ABC) Communications and Partnerships Committee and the newly formed Council of States, an advocacy group working on a national level. She has a passion for advancing advocacy issues that benefit our industry. During her term on the Executive Committee of BCC, the group successfully passed legislation to change the California State requirement for an RN to be physically present at all blood collection operations, bringing California’s laws more in line with other states.
