Leah Mendelsohn Stone, JD is Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy at the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB). She leads the strategic development and implementation of the policies that promote access to safe blood, transfusion medicine, and biotherapies.
Leah uses her extensive subject matter expertise in health policy -- including Medicare and Medicaid coverage and reimbursement, healthcare delivery and payment reform, prevention, healthcare quality, emergency preparedness and response, and research – to positions and generate innovative policy solutions. She identifies diverse strategic partners, builds coalitions, and develops and maintains relationships with other organizations and associations. She also represents AABB before Congress, Federal agencies and advisory committees, state governments, and other organizations.
Prior to joining AABB, Leah spent a decade in private practice as a healthcare policy and advocacy attorney. In that capacity, she provided legislative, regulatory, and policy counsel to a wide variety of healthcare organizations, including hospital systems, professional societies,
foundations, patient groups, trade associations and coalitions. Before entering private practice, Leah was the Research Regulations Specialist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she assessed compliance with laws impacting research, interpreted the impact of
HIPAA on research plans, and implemented a quality assurance and quality improvement program for the human research protections program.
Leah earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tufts University and her law degree from the Emory University School of Law.
